Love Lies and Deception Blog Stop

What do you do when the one person you thought you knew turns out to be the one you knew the least?

Twenty-three year old Marissa Chase, and soon to be college graduate, has everything going for her: wonderful friends, a lucrative degree, and a chance to explore the world. What made it even better – or so she thought – was when her path crossed with the alluring Alec Holden. Unable to stay away from him, Marissa experiences a love like no other, and falls into his world of passion and intrigue. However, things begin to shift when this path takes a deadly turn.

Her trust is put to the test when hidden dangers unfold before her, revealing secrets that have been buried for years. Secrets that were meant to stay hidden. Murder, lies, and betrayal … will Marissa figure it all out in time and escape with her life intact, or will she be too late and fall into the trap of deception?

L.P. Dover has blown me away! I loved this book so much! Her writing is amazing and it sweeps you away and into the story like you are right there in the action. I lost count of how many times my heart skipped a beat while reading Love, Lies & Deception.
The title alone lets you know what you are getting yourself in to; lots of love, lies, and deception. We get so much more though. This book really had it all. Drama, suspense, comedy, romance, hot guys….well you get my point. It’s all in there, wrapped up with a pretty awesome cover!

You will LOVE Alec! What is there not to love about him? He is a hot, bad boy type with a dark and haunting past and, of course, dirty little secrets. His BIG secret wasn’t at all what I thought it would be. I was shocked!
You will never guess what is coming around the corner, but that didn’t stop me from trying to figure it out! I kept guessing and guessing, trying really hard, but I was soooooooooooooo wrong. I never could have guessed who the killer was, but I was right that a certain person was involved.

Excerpt

Kristian was leaning against the wall with his muscular arms crossed at his chest. His smoky gray eyes watched me intently as I made my way to him, and it made me nervous. I’d never seen him look at me like that, with such longing and need.

When I approached, he loosened his arms and pulled me straight into them, enveloping me in his scent of bodywash and cologne; he smelled completely different from Alec, like they had their own enticing scent. He was wearing the cologne I had given him for his birthday the year before, and it made me smile as I laid my head on his chest.

“Please don’t go, Marissa. I can take you somewhere and keep you safe. Why does it have to be him? If anything, it’s more dangerous since whoever is after you is only doing it because of him.”

In all honesty, he had a point, but I didn’t want to imagine not going with Alec. I held onto Kristian tighter and breathed him in. I was going to miss him so much.

“I have to go, Kristian,” I whispered. “And I have to go with Alec. I don’t want you or any of our friends being targets just because of me. If anything happened to any of you I would never forgive myself.”

Kristian let me go and placed both of his hands on my cheeks, lifting my face up. “I’m not going to know what to do without you, Mare. You’ve been such a huge part of my life for so long. Just please promise me that you’ll call me or text if you need anything.”

Smiling, I leaned into his hand and placed mine over the top of his. “Always,” I whispered wholeheartedly. A lone tear escaped out of the corner of my eye and Kristian wiped it away with his thumb.

A pained look crossed his face and my heart shattered for him. “Be safe, Marissa.”

“I will,” I said, slowly backing away from him. “But I have to go.”

As soon as I turned to leave, Kristian grabbed my arm and pulled me to him, crushing his lips against mine. They were firm yet soft, and the desire that flowed through them to me shot through my body like electricity. Kristian had never kissed me like that before, or ever for that matter. The kiss only lasted briefly because Alec came up behind me and tore me away from him, and stepped in front of me.

In a low, menacing voice Alec said, “If I ever see you touch her like that again I’m gonna rip off your arms and shove them up your ass. Be thankful I can’t do anything about it now, but when we come back you better watch out.”

Kristian met Alec head on. “I’d like to see you try,” he sneered.

Interview

What made you decide to start writing?

I began writing ever since I was a little girl. I think I wrote my first book when I was eight years old. It happened to be about four pages long … lol.  Anyway, I didn’t become serious about it until I started befriending some fellow authors. Their encouragement led me down the path of writing. I was clueless about how to publish a book and they helped and guided me.

Where do you get the inspiration for your stories and characters?

Everything inspires me!! I know this is strange, but the weather inspires me. My fae series deals with the seasons and I made sure to write them during those times in the book. I wrote Forever Fae in the fall and in the book it dealt with the Fall court, and so forth. Other things such as music, art, movies, other books, and just life in general inspire me.

What is your writing process like?

I love to write in my favorite recliner. For some reason, I can’t think anywhere else in the house except in my favorite chair. I usually do a lot of my writing at night when my kids are in bed.

Which character of yours is your favorite and why?

This is seriously a hard question!! They’re all my favorites!!! I love each and every one of them and they all hold a special place in my heart.

Do you have a specific writing style?

I really love writing in first person. I tried doing the whole third person thing, but I just couldn’t get into it. I’m just more comfortable with first.

Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

Hmm … not really. (LOL) I know that sounds bad, but I don’t really have a message in it. If anything, it would be trust, to learn to trust your instincts.

Who are your favorite authors?

Oh goodness there are so many!!! If I had to pinpoint them I would have to say Jeaniene Frost, Sylvia Day, Quinn Loftis, Shelly Crane, Terry Spear, and Laurell K. Hamilton.

What books have most influenced your life most?

Definitely, Quinn Loftis’ books. She was the first indie author I ever read so reading her stories it gave me the courage the start my own dream.

What book are you reading now?

I just got through reading Real by Katy Evans. Loved it!!

Who designs your book covers?

Regina Wamba with Mae I Design has designed all of my cover so far.

What was the hardest part of writing your book?

The hardest parts are remembering every single detail. I have to write them all down in a notebook before I get started. Take for instance, eye and hair colors and so forth. I do a whole character biography before I start writing a book so I can have them completely in depth in my mind before I start.

What was your favorite part of your book(s)?

To be honest, I think the favorite part of ALL my books would be the ending to Summer of Frost. It was the most heartfelt scene I wrote and I know it meant a lot to my readers to be able to join in with what I did there.

Is there anything in your book based on real life experiences or purely all imagination?

Yeah, there are several instances where I guess come from my own life. If you notice, my main characters love Italian food. Italian food is my favorite so I guess they adopted that from me. My novel, Love’s Second Chance, is more about my life story. Not every single thing about the book is true, but it was a version of how I met my husband. If you notice in the book, Korinne and Galen’s first date was at the race track … it was mine and my husband’s too. For Love, Lies, and Deception, I put the setting in Boone, NC. My characters attend ASU which is where I went to college. I know the area well up there so it was easy to have it come alive in my book.

How do you come up with the titles for your books?

I just take the story line and condense it into a couple of words. I have to say, naming the title is one of the hardest parts for me.

What do you like to do when you are not writing?

I like to read, of course.

If you could have dinner with one person, dead or alive, who would it be and why?

I would have to say my grandmother. I miss her so much and I would do anything to be able to see her again just once.

Do you have any upcoming projects?

Oh definitely, there are so many ideas in my head it’s crazy. I’m currently working on my 2nd Second Chances book at the moment. But I have a whole new series planned out for next year that I can’t wait to get started on.

Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?

That I love you all dearly and that I love your support. It warms my heart when I receive messages about someone has loved my books. It really means a lot to me and there’s no way I can ever say ‘Thank You’ enough. Readers are my rock stars!!
